Tips for the HPI Wheely King

HPI Racing's Wheely King 4X4 is a true-to-scale remote-control monster truck featuring four-wheel drive, custom-tuned weight distribution for long-lasting wheelies, oil-damped coil-spring suspension for smooth racing, and an Electronic Speed Control system for optimal maneuverability.
  1. Cleaning

    • Cleaning your HPI Wheely King remote-control monster truck regularly will help you notice potential problems and also make it easier for you to fine-tune the truck's parts. Use a long-bristled brush to clean any dust and debris from the interior and exterior of the Wheely King. Apply a small amount of denatured alcohol or motor-oil spray to a cotton wash-cloth and gently wipe the external body of the monster truck to remove any smudges or marks.

    Bearings and Belts

    • The Wheely King features many mechanical parts that may require occasional tuning. If your Wheely King's speed begins to decline during a race, you may add a small amount of oil-based lubricant to the Wheely King's ball bearings. It is also important to check the Wheely King's drive belts regularly for signs of excessive wear and tear. The drive belts should be loose enough to move from side to side, yet tight enough to remain fastened during full-speed acceleration. If the drive belts are beginning to tear, refrain from operating the Wheely King until the belts are replaced.

    Shocks, Motor Brushes and Springs

    • The Wheely King features oil damped coil-spring shock suspension for smooth maneuvering while driving on rough terrain. The Wheely King's shocks should be refilled with oil and wiped clean with a dry cotton cloth after every fifteen uses. If the Wheely King's motor brushes must also be cleaned after every fifteen uses with motor oil spray. Rotate the brushes while spraying them with motor oil, making sure to cover each end of the brushes.

The truck's motor springs should be sprayed with motor oil as well. Check the motor springs each time you maintain the truck's suspension to verify the motor springs are stable. If the springs become loose or detached and cause the motor to overheat, you may need to replace the truck's motor brushes and springs.
