How to Adjust Power Wheels

Fisher Price's Power Wheels line of children's electrically-operated vehicles can be adjusted to travel at speeds greater than the 2-½ MPH maximum set at the factory. You can perform the adjustment when you're confident your child has mastered using the Power Wheels at slow speeds. Your child should know how to steer, start and stop the vehicle. Your child should also know some basic fundamental safety rules, such as avoiding steep inclines. Once your child has these skills, you can adjust the lock-out so that the child can travel at speeds up to 5 MPH.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the shifter into the low speed "1" position. This is the left-most position in the Z-shaped shifter grate.

    • 2

Loosen the lock-out screw to the right of the grate and remove the screw.

    • 3

Insert the screw into its storage location. The screw is stored in a hole in the shifter handle. Storing it allows you to add it again if necessary.

    • 4

Move the shifter into the "2" position at the far end of shifter travel--the end of the Z-shaped grate--and press down on the foot pedal. The Power Wheels can now travel at 5 MPH.
