How to Change RC Nitro Tires

Performance is significantly impacted by the condition of your RC vehicle's tires. Old, worn tires lack traction and degrade a vehicle's agility and speed. It's important to consider the health of your tires to ensure your vehicle is in top shape. Learning how to replace your RC Nitro car's tires offers a way to enhance overall performance with reduced drag and improved handling.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the hex-nut that fastens each wheel to the chassis. Slide off the four wheels, then replace the nuts onto their respective bolts to prevent losing any of them.

    • 2

Press the rim through the tire and pry it free using your index finger between the rubber lip and the rim's mounting groove. Repeat this process with all four wheels.

    • 3

Replace the foam, if necessary, by sliding the inner foam off the rim and replacing it with a new foam insert. It isn't necessary to replace the foams when changing your tires. Consider the wear and tear on the inner foam, and whether they are the correct size for the new tires before replacing.

    • 4

Pop the new tires onto the rims by placing the rim on a flat surface then stacking the tire on top of it. Press with the palm of your hand straight down. Use your fingers to align the rubber lips with the inner groove of the rims. Repeat this process with all four wheels.

    • 5

Apply a strong adhesive, such as Super Glue, around the inside of the rubber lip by pulling back the inner lip and applying the glue inside to ensure a firm bond.

    • 6

Install the wheels back onto the chassis, placing the largest tires on the back end of the vehicle. Remove the hex nut, then slip the wheel over the mounting bolts and fasten it with the nut. Do not over-tighten the wheels and spin them to ensure a snug -- but not too snug -- fit so that they spin freely when rotated.
