How to See If Your RC Electric Motor Works

While some remote-control motors may not appear to be in any condition to work, it is best to test it before you throw it out. Testing your motor will allow you to assess if it is worth installing, holding onto, or tossing out. If you are not sure whether or not your RC motor is functional, consider testing it yourself.

Instructions

  1. Battery Test Your Motor

    • 1

Choose a battery pack at a quarter capacity to ensure that the motor doesn't rev too high. The battery is going to connect directly to the motor, so choose a battery pack that doesn't have a connector, but stripped wires for its positive (+) and negative (-) terminals.

    • 2

Mount the motor into your vehicle using the two mounting screws, then remove the pinion gear. If the motor jumps to life, the teeth of the pinion gear could damage any nearby gears.

    • 3

Touch the positive and negative battery terminals to their matching leads on the motor. Make a firm connection to test if the motor responds to the electric current. The motor will spin if it is functional..
