Things You'll Need
Instructions
Trace the shape of a skateboard on your deck material. The ideal material is wood, because it is stronger, but you can also use index cards, cardboard or paper. You can draw the shape freehand, or you can trace the outside of a quarter, move it about 1 and a 1/2 inches down, trace it again, then connect the two tracings with straight lines with a ruler.
Cut the board shape out of the material. If you are using wood, sand the shape so it is smooth. If you are using cardboard, index cards or paper, cut out 10 or 11 copies and glue them together to make a thicker board. Allow the glue to dry for a few minutes. The deck should end up about 1/4 of an inch thick.
Shape the board by bending the edges upward. If you are using wood, you may have a harder time doing this, but you can sand it into shape.
Place marks on the board 3/4 of an inch in from each end and exactly centered from the sides of the board. These two spots are where the trucks will go.
Center a truck over each of the marks, and mark the four screw holes. Make sure you line the trucks up so they are exactly parallel to each other, and perpendicular to the board.
Drill four pilot holes into the deck material. Make sure you don't puncture the top of the deck.
Screw the trucks to the bottom of the board. If you made the deck with glue, now is a good time to let the board to dry overnight.
Attach the wheels to the trucks by screwing them into place with the included screws.
Cover the top of the board with duct tape, and use some sandpaper to rough it up to create the grip tape on the top.
