How to Replace a Safety 1st 12-Volt Battery

Having an extra battery on hand for a Safety 1st toy vehicle is a good idea. A spare charged battery allows for backyard riding fun to go on for as long as the child likes. When the first battery begins to become drained and the vehicle starts to slow, take a moment to replace the Safety 1st 12-volt battery with the extra charged one. The batteries are easy to switch out. Charge the drained battery while the other is in use to keep the fun going.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the toy and unplug the charger from the vehicle.

    • 2

Remove the battery-compartment cover screws using a Phillips screwdriver and open the compartment. Some Safety 1st models have a 12-volt battery compartment built into front of the body the way a real car would. Other models have a battery in the rear of the toy. Consult your toy manual to locate the compartment or look on the outside of the vehicle for a small sticker indicating where the battery is placed.

    • 3

Pull out the quick-connect plug from the socket on the side of the battery to disconnect the engine and battery. The plug will be at the end of the engine-wiring harness.

    • 4

Lift the old battery out of the compartment and lower in the new one. Make sure the side plug of the new battery is facing the same way as the plug on the old battery.

    • 5

Connect the wiring harness of the engine to the battery by pushing the quick-connect plug into the socket on the battery.
