How to Display Hot Wheels

First released in 1968, Hot Wheels toy cars range from replicas of real vehicles you see on the road to fictional vehicles from movies and popular culture. You can show off your collection of cars by creating a display to mount on your wall or shelves. When you create your display, take into account whether you keep your cars in their original packaging or if you take them out to show off to other enthusiasts.

  • Pegboard hooks
  • Hot Wheels cars in package
  • 3 inch by 5 inch wood wedge

Instructions

  1. In the Package

    • 1

Place the pegboard up against a wall so you are viewing it as it will look when mounted.

    • 2

Slide a pegboard hook into the fourth or fifth hole from the left on the top of the board. Hang one of your Hot Wheels packages on the hook.

    • 3

Adjust the hook if the package is too close or too far to the left of the pegboard.

    • 4

Count the number of holes from the right of the hook to the end of the package.

    • 5

Move over the number of holes you counted plus two. Hang your next hook and place the next Hot Wheels package. Continue counting and placing until you reach the right edge of the board.

    • 6

Skip two holes beneath the first placed packaged and start a new row of hooks and Hot Wheels. Continue until you place all of your Hot Wheels.

    • 7

Print out labels for each of your Hot Wheels on the board and apply them directly beneath the packages. Create labels for the year of the Hot Wheel, when you purchased it, the number in a series or any other label you wish.

    Out of Package Hot Wheels

    • 8

Place a 3-inch wide by 5-inch long wooden wedge on a flat surface in front of you so that it angles up and away from you.

    • 9

Cut a ¼ inch square dowel so that it measures 3 inches in length.

    • 10

Apply a stripe of glue to one of the four sides of the dowel and secure it 1 inch up from the front end of the wedge.

    • 11

Print out a label using your computer or a label maker with the car name and year. Apply the label to the 1 inch of space directly in front of the dowel.

    • 12

Place your car on the other side of the dowel rod so that the front bumper touches the rod. The car will angle up so onlookers can see the details on the hood and top of the car.
