Find a Mentor
One of the most repeated tips given for people who want to learn to fly model helicopters is to find someone who's been doing it longer than you and ask him to teach you. Having a mentor can make the process easier on you, especially when your mentor can help you completely sidestep amateur mistakes that he made when he was first learning how to fly. It's important that you fly with someone you trust, and that you get along well with. You'll never learn anything if you butt heads and argue with your teacher, after all.
Simulation Practice
While video games might seem to be a step back, flight simulators can help you develop the necessary hand-eye coordination and dexterity, as well as fast reflexes, to properly fly a model helicopter. You should probably try a variety of different simulators before you find something that works for you and your skill set. You should also switch back and forth though, making sure that you don't forget the basics of flying your model helicopter in reality while trying to improve your flying in virtual reality.
Go Slow
It helps if you crawl before you can walk when it comes to flying model helicopters. As such, you should set yourself small goals and achieve them at your own pace. Before you start flying patterns for instance, make sure you've mastered start up, take off and landing procedures. Then start flying in small, tight patterns before you move out to something bigger. If you have a mentor then she can help you set your pace and goals for learning to fly your model helicopter.
