Things You'll Need
Instructions
Drill two 1/4 inch holes into a 1-foot long 2 x 4–each hole should be 3 inches apart from the edges on the 4 foot face and 6 inches apart from each other. The holes should go through the entire 2 inch thickness of the 2 x 4.
Thread a 12 inch long cotton string through one of the holes and keep it from going through all the way by tying a double- knot on one end of the string. Repeat this step on the second hole with a second 12 inch length of cotton string.
Attach a length of leather string to the top of the 2 x 4 using staples and a staple gun. The leather string should be 3 inches long.
Draw the shape of an animal or insect that generally climbs up walls onto a 6 x 6 inch pinewood board. Lizards, spiders and rats are good examples.
Cut out the shape of the animal using a jigsaw. A jigsaw will give you the most maneuverability to cut out the most detailed shapes.
Drill a 1/4 inch hole on either side of the animal shape–preferably into a leg or arm of the animal.
Sand down the shape of the animal using sandpaper, and then paint the animal with detail.
Thread one of the cotton strings through one of the holes on the side of the animal, and then repeat on the other hole with the other string.
Tie a double-knot at the end of both strings so that the animal shape doesn’t drop down and off the string. When your child plays with this toy, hang it from the wall and have your child pull on the strings from side-to-side–and the animal will climb up the string.
