How to Do Tech Dech Tricks

One of the things you'll find with a Tech Deck fingerboard is that it's less fun if you can't do some of the stunts. The more complicated stunts all hinge on your ability to pull off some of the more basic and simple stunts like the ollie or grinding. After mastering these two tricks, you'll find whole new doors opening up in terms of other tricks you can do. Fortunately, with a little practice, you can do just about any stunts you can find.

Things You'll Need

  • Tech Deck skateboard
  • Book, wooden box or Tech Deck stunt rail
  • Tech Deck skate stunt pieces (optional)

Instructions

  1. The Ollie

    • 1

Put the fingerboard on a flat surface and put your index and middle fingers on the top of it. The index finger should go toward the middle of the board, toward the nose or front; the middle finger should be on the tail, toward the back.

    • 2

Roll the board forward slightly. Practice this movement until you're comfortable with how much or little pressure you need to apply. When you're comfortable enough to attempt the trick, move on.

    • 3

Tap the tail of the board down and lift the board slightly. You should pull it up to about an 80-degree angle.

    • 4

Push the front of the board forward, so that it levels out the board in the air.

    • 5

Bring your hand down as the board falls, not pushing down but letting it fall. Practice this trick until you're comfortable performing it whenever you need to.

    Grinding

    • 6

Place the book, box or stunt rail on your play surface so that it's within easy reach. It should be something with a hard, definable edge, as well as something that's heavy enough that you won't be able to push it too easily.

    • 7

Lift or ollie the board up to the edge of the object. Place the trucks, the axles of the skateboard, so that they run along the very edge of the piece. On a regular skateboard, this would create a grinding sound, which is why it's called grinding.

    • 8

Move the board along the edge on its trucks.

    • 9

Ollie off the end of the grind rail or box or simply fall flat on the regular play surface.
