How to Make a Tech Deck Grind Pole

Tech Deck grind poles add an array of slides and tricks to practice with on a finger skateboard. A fingerboard grind pole needs to be constructed of sturdy materials that will stand up to hard landings and dismounts. Connecting multiple grind rails allows you to perform long-flowing trick sets that combine jumps, flips, grinds and slides. You can create and customize a Tech Deck grind pole that represents your personal fingerboard style.

Instructions

    • 1

Trim a 10-inch section of the hard plastic tubing. Smooth the rough ends with a small piece of sandpaper.

    • 2

Drill two holes into one side of the tube. The holes should be parallel to one another and be placed three inches from the ends.

    • 3

Cut a 16-inch section of the wood piece. Secure it in a vice with a long side facing up.

    • 4

Draw a 30-degree angle on the top edge at both ends of the wood piece.

    • 5

Saw off the ends of the wood piece that are above the 30-degree pencil lines to create ramps at both ends of the block. Sand the cut grades until they are smooth.

    • 6

Drive the tow finishing nails into the wood block four inches apart from each other and centered between the mount and dismount ramps. Tap the nails until they are even and about 1 1/2 to 2 inches are visible above the board.

    • 7

Line up the holes on the bottom side of the plastic grind pole with the nails and push down. Fill the rail from both ends with silicone caulk. Allow it to dry for added stability in the Tech Deck grind pole.
