How to Make a Ramp for Hot Wheels

Young children are often fascinated with the concept of speed and motion. Encourage youngsters to help create their own ramp for their favorite Hot Wheels cars in a large open area. This fun activity doubles as a valuable learning experience. Preschoolers can race their Hot Wheels, or other small cars, down the ramp, talk about car styles and colors, and learn how to use a stopwatch during this playtime session with their parents or other children.

Instructions

    • 1

Create piles of blocks and books that are between 3 and 6 inches high. Stack the books and blocks in study piles and securely wrap the masking tape around them in several directions.

    • 2

Tape together 6-inch-wide sections of cardboard to make long ramps. Wrap the ramps with waxed paper like a gift package, using the masking tape to attach the paper to the cardboard on the underside of the ramps.

    • 3

Place the ramps over the piles of blocks and books so one end is on the ground, the other at the top of the blocks pile.

    • 4

Tape a line with masking tape across the floor with masking tape several feet from the end of the ramp to serve as a finishing line.

    • 5

Launch cars from the top of the ramp and record the time it takes to get to the finish line with the stopwatch.
