How to Hover an RC Helicopter

A RC helicopter that is hovering is virtually motionless in the air. It may move or drift in the wind but the goal is to keep the helicopter from moving. Hovering is a technique that pilots should learn to master before trying other moves. Learning how to hover a RC helicopter will prevent future crashes and the costs associated with them.

Instructions

      Place the helicopter on the ground in an area that is at least 10 feet long by 10 feet wide and is free from obstructions.

      Bring the helicopter 2-3 feet off the ground by gently pressing the joystick up.

      Hold the helicopter in the air for at least 15-20 seconds.

      Pull the joystick to the right when the helicopter starts drifting to the left.

    • 5

      Pull the joystick to the left when the helicopter starts drifting to the right.

    • 6

      Press the joystick up when the helicopter starts sinking towards the ground.
