How to Troubleshoot a Leapster Phonics Train

The LeapFrog Phonics Railroad system is comprised of railroad tracks, buildings, accessories and a powered train. The train runs on four AA alkaline batteries. If the train will not turn on, makes strange sounds or behaves erratically, some troubleshooting steps can be taken that may resolve the problem. Performing these preliminary steps may eliminate the need to contact the manufacturer.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the batteries and then put them back in. The batteries may not have been inserted fully.

    • 2

Check the batteries to make sure they are installed in the correct direction. The polarity diagram inside the battery compartment indicates the direction in each battery should be inserted.

    • 3

Make sure the battery cover is correctly secured. Batteries may become loose if the battery cover is not correctly in place.

    • 4

Check the batteries to make sure they are the same age. If some are old and some are new, insufficient power may be left in them to operate the train.

    • 5

Clean the battery contacts by applying a small amount of rubbing alcohol to a cotton swab. Wipe the contacts with the cotton swab. Allow the contacts to dry completely before inserting the batteries.

    • 6

Install four brand-new AA batteries if no other steps resolve the issue.
