Put a sheet of newspaper on a table. Put the sheet of card stock on the newspaper with the shorter side facing you.
Fold the top side of the card stock down to the bottom side. Crease the card stock and open it back up.
Fold the top of the sheet of card stock down to the crease. Fold the bottom of the sheet of card stock up to the crease.
Put pieces of cellophane tape on the side of the card stock to hold the sides together.
Put the card stock on the newspaper with the short end facing you. Measure 1 inch from the left side of the card stock. Make a dot with the black marker at the 1-inch mark. Repeat on the right side.
Measure 3 inches up from the bottom of the card stock. Make a dot with the black marker at the 3-inch mark.
Cut out a rectangle in the card stock with the scissors using the widths of the two dots and the length of the single dot from the marker as guides with the help of the ruler.
Place a pencil vertically on the left side of the card stock. Glue the pencil to the card stock with the hot glue gun. Repeat with another pencil on the right side of the card stock. Let the glue set for two minutes.
Cut a plastic drinking straw in half. Place one of the cut pieces through the crease at the end of the card stock that has the rectangle cut out of it. Place the other piece through the crease at the other end of the card stock.
Insert a wooden dowel into each of the cut pieces of the plastic drinking straw.
Glue the center of a CD to one of the ends of one of the cut pieces of the plastic drinking straw with the glue gun. Let the glue set for five minutes.
Repeat this procedure with the other CDs so that each end of the plastic drinking straws has a CD attached. Let the glue set for 10 minutes.
Place two plastic drinking straws vertically on the newspaper side by side. Separate the two plastic drinking straws by 5 inches.
Glue one end of the rubber band to the end closest to you of one of the plastic drinking straws with the hot glue gun. Let the glue set for two minutes. Repeat this procedure with the other end of the rubber band and the end of the other plastic drinking straw.
Put the two plastic drinking straws on the floor with the ends that have the rubber band glued to them facing you.
Tape the two plastic drinking straws to the floor with duct tape.
Place the racer you have made between the two pieces of the plastic drinking straw with the cut-out rectangle facing you. Push the cut-out rectangle into the rubber band of the slingshot you have made.
Pull back on the racer until the rubber band of your sling shot is fully stretched out. Release the racer to see it race across the room.
