Instructions
Cut the 4x8 foot board using the table saw into two sections, one 4x2 foot and the second 4x6 foot.
Sand the cut ends of the boards smooth using the sandpaper mounted onto a sanding block.
Place the boards onto a flat surface with the 4-foot sides parallel to one another with a slight gap in between large enough to contain the rounded part of the heavy-duty hinges.
Mount the hinges to the two boards, connecting them so that the boards fold upward at the hinge. Use the 1/2-inch wood screws to hold the hinges in place.
Cut the 6-foot length of chain in half to form two 3-foot-long pieces with the chain cutter.
Mark points on the edges of the 2-foot long board 1 foot from the board end. Attach a chain each at these two marks using the wood screws.
Fold the 2-foot-long board at the hinge until you create the desired angle for your ramp. Steeper angles require more power from your vehicle and create higher arcs when the car jumps. Extend a chain along the side of the 6-foot board until it̵7;s taut when the board is open to the desired angle. Screw the chain in place to help stabilize the opened ramp at the desired angle. Do the same with the chain on the other side of the board.
Place 2-foot lengths of loop tape strips along the last 2-feet length of the top of the plywood board at the base of the board where the board meets the ground. Place a 4-foot length of loop tape across the width of the board, butted perpendicular to the tops of the 2-foot strips.
Cut a piece of smooth-faced vinyl sheeting 4x4 feet square.
Place a 4-foot strip of hook tape across one end of the rear of the vinyl sheet, 1-inch from the end. Place two 2-foot-long strips of the hook tape butted perpendicular to the 4-foot strip running along the sides of the sheet.
Attach the vinyl sheet to the wood ramp, with 2 feet of sheeting extending beyond the ramp along the ground using the hooks on the sheeting tape to attach to the loops in the board tape. The vinyl sheeting provides a smooth transition for the car between the road and the edge of the ramp.
Use the sandpaper attached to the sanding block to feather the end of the top of the vinyl sheeting to the board, creating a smooth angled transition between the top of the vinyl sheeting and the ramp.
Use the ramp by opening the hinged piece and placing the ramp flat onto a surface. The chains hold the ramp in place, preventing it from collapsing under the weight of cars traveling over it. Place the vinyl sheet on the base of the ramp using the tape strips for attachment. Take down the ramp for easy storage and transporting by removing the vinyl sheeting and folding the ramp at the hinge.
