Disadvantages to Nitro RC Cars

Nitro RC (remote control) cars have many advantages over electric cars. They are faster, don't require long recharge times and have the realistic sound and feel of a gas engine. Nitro cars also have a number of disadvantages when compared to electric cars.

Danger
- Nitro RC cars can go extremely fast--some up to 80 mph. Although speed thrills nitro RC hobbyists, it's also quite dangerous. Inexperienced hobbyists can easily lose control and not only damage their car, but others nearby. For this reason, nitro RC cars are generally not recommended for beginners.
Location
- Nitro RC cars are loud and their two-stroke, gas and oil burning engines emit an exhaust that many people find unpleasant. These factors limit the number of places where you can operate a nitro car. While electric cars can be used indoors, on residential streets or in backyards, nitro RC operators may not be able to drive their cars except on designated RC tracks. Nitro cars may be a particularly bad choice in neighborhoods with strict noise ordinances.
Maintenance
- Electric RC motors require very little maintenance other than recharging the battery. With nitro RC cars, however, the engine needs to be slowly broken in to avoid damaging the car, the carburetor has to be set and the air filter, glow plug and other engine parts have to be maintained. Maintenance and fuel costs make nitro RC cars more expensive to maintain.
