How to Use a Gas R/C Car

Gas-powered remote-controlled cars are powerful machines that can go from zero to 60 as quickly as any full-size vehicle. Formally used only by experienced RC car drivers, new easy-to-use technology has brought high performance cars to the entry level user. Using a gas-powered R/C still requires some preparation and attention though, especially in the start-up phase. Once the engine is running smoothly, driving a gas powered R/C is a simple matter of steering and applying the gas.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Starting the Car

    • 1

Prepare your car for use by filling the gas tank with nitro fuel made specifically for your engine type. Place batteries in the remote control transmitter and receiver. Test the batteries by moving the wheels of the car using the steering wheel of your remote

    • 2

Remove the pressure line from the exhaust pipe of the car. Blow air into the pressure line to move fuel through the fuel line into the carburetor. You should see the fuel actually moving through the fuel line as you blow the air. Stop blowing through the pressure line and reinstall it when the fuel reaches the carburetor.

    • 3

Clip the glow plug igniter to the glow plug on the top of the engine cylinder head. The igniter, which resembles a screwdriver, heats the glow plug, which then provides the spark to ignite the fuel in the car's fuel chamber for running the engine.

    • 4

Turn the throttle knob on the engine slightly to apply a small amount of throttle to your car engine, and then pull the starter cord. With the carburetor primed with fuel, the engine should start right up. Remove the glow igniter and the car is ready to drive.

    Driving the Car

    • 5

Drive the car in a circle for about three minutes at a moderate speed in order to warm up the engine. You'll be able to control the car with better handling at higher speeds with the engine warmed.

    • 6

Steer the car in the direction you wish it to turn by turning the steering wheel on the remote transmitter.

    • 7

Use the trigger control on your remote transmitter to control the speed of your car. Apply more pressure to the trigger in order to increase speed, and push the trigger forward in order to reverse the car.

    • 8

Using a dual-stick remote, move the vertically placed stick for speed control, and the horizontal movement stick for controlling the direction of the vehicle.
