How to Find a Tonka Toy by Bar Code

Sometimes when you are looking for a specific toy, it seems that the store doesn't have any left. However, what you see on the shelves is not necessarily all that the store has in stock. Often, the store will have additional products in stockrooms that have not been put on display. Knowing the bar code or DCPI number can help you track down that elusive toy.

Search online for the Tonka product that you are looking for. Hasbro, the manufacturer of Tonka toys, has a website where you can buy their toys: HasbroToyShop.com

Stores have their own unique system for locating items. Almost all stores track which items they have in stock via the item's bar code. If you don't see the item that you are looking for on the shelf, have an employee scan the bar code on the display. If you know the item's bar code number, present it to the employee so she can enter it into the system. This will make it much easier to determine whether or not they have the item in stock.

Some stores, such as Target, do not go by an item's bar code when it comes to locating items. For these stores, you will need additional information to find the item you are looking for. For instance, Target assigns a DCPI number to the products they sell. There are two ways to find out an item's DCPI number. Search the store's website or see if there is a display shelf for the item and find the item's tag with the bar code. The number on that tag is the DCPI number. Once you know this number you can present it to any employee and he can punch the number into his scanner gun to see if the item is in stock.

If you are unable to find the item in stock at your store, you can try searching online in other ways. You could post an ad on websites such as Craigslist or eBay.
