Schwinn Electric Scooter Troubleshooting

Schwinn has long been known for its extensive line of bicycles, scooters and other vehicles. When well maintained, these various riding instruments can provide many years of trouble free service. Even so it is important for anyone who owns a Schwinn electric scooter to know how to fix common problems. Having some basic troubleshooting skills will make it easier to resolve these issues and keep that scooter on the road.
  1. Charging Problems

    • One of the chief advantages of a Schwinn electric scooter is the fact that it can run on electricity alone. But in order for it to run efficiently, it will need to be charge properly. Charging problems are among the most common problems with Schwinn scooters, and it is important for owners to know how to resolve this type of problem. If the scooter is not holding a charge, the most likely culprit is a weak battery. The battery can be tested using a standard battery tester, and if it is not fully charged it will need to be replaced.

    Wheel Not Spinning

    • Sometimes the motor on a Schwinn electric scooter will start, and the motor will continue to run when the throttle is engaged but the rear wheel will not spin. When this happens the most likely problem is a worn out freewheel mechanism on the back wheel. Other things that can cause this problem include a missing drive belt or chain.

    Testing the Brake Lever Switch

    • Electric scooters like those made by Schwinn are equipped with a brake lever switch that tells the speed controller to turn off when the brakes are depressed. When the brake lever switch goes bad it typically locks in the "on" position, and this causes the speed controller to turn off. The best way to test the switch is to disconnect it and try to run the scooter. If the scooter runs with the switch disconnected but not when it is connected the switch is the problem.
