How to Hand Launch an RC Plane

Radio-controlled models or toys provide hours of entertainment for children and adults of all ages. Radio-controlled airplanes are a little more expensive than some of the other RC toys, so when you want to start flying them, you must be a little more careful. The two ways to take off an RC plane are from a tarmac, or a hand launch, which you can do without landing gear or any kind of runway.

Instructions

  Turn the transmitter on your radio control and the receiver on the plane on. Balance the plane in the hand on your throwing arm. For most people, this is the same hand they eat and write with. Hold the radio control in your other hand.

  Aim the plane's nose down just slightly so the wings are level. Face into the wind. Turn the engine up to full throttle on the remote control.

  Throw the plane forward like you throw a baseball, keeping the wings level. Do not try to throw it like a dart, but push it firmly with your hand. Do not try to throw it up or the engine can stall without the aerodynamic lift. Some people like to take a few steps or a slight run before letting go.

  Hold the remote control in both hands to fly the plane. Keep the first climb after the hand launch gradual to allow the plane to gain enough lift from the wings and speed from the engine.
