How to Make Homemade LEGO Cars

Playing with LEGO bricks is fun and a great way to encourage creativity. LEGOs, by design, allow you to create a wide range of items, limited only by your creativity. The ability to design cars out of LEGO bricks is no exception, with a variety of bricks and wheel types to choose from. While there are many predetermined designs and plans you can follow, creating your own homemade model also can be fun.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide on the type of car you will be making to select the right type of body. You do not have to include a mechanized piece, opting instead to move the car manually, however LEGO does have bricks that enable self-propulsion, if desired.

    • 2

Select the type of wheels you will be using for your car. LEGO provides wheels in pairs, with a brick in the middle for fastening, as well as individually, with a brick above them to attach them to your car. What's more, wheels come in many sizes, meaning you can create a standard car, with wheels of equal size, or create a race-car design, with larger wheels in the rear.

    • 3

Decide on the shape you want your car to take, and firmly store it in your mind. If desired, you can even sketch your idea.

    • 4

Begin sorting through your collection of bricks to locate the ones you need to create your design. It is best to try to have all the bricks you need before building, so you don't find that you cannot complete your desired car after working on it.

    • 5

Assemble the bricks to best match your design. It helps to pick a starting point and build out and up from there, rather than building in pieces and putting them together in the end.
