Preparation
Before you begin to use your Havoc Heli, it is important that you properly prepare your helicopter for flight. The design of the helicopter does not provide any propellers for forward motion. In order for your helicopter to move forward, it must be made so that the nose tilts slightly forward, so upward propulsion can also become forward propulsion. For this, the makers provided your helicopter with a set of small bar weights which can be attached to the struts of the helicopter to pull the nose down and allow the helicopter to move forward. Attach these weights before trying to fly your helicopter, with more weights creating less upward thrust and more forward thrust, or less weight providing more upward thrust but less forward thrust. Once your helicopter is properly weighted, it is important to give it a full charge so you don't have your helicopter die on you mid-flight. Plug the charging cord into both the helicopter and the port on the remote control. It is easy to place the cord upside down, so it is important to look at the small LED on the front of the controller. It should turn green when plugged in. If it does not, turn the cord over on the end plugged into the helicopter. Once the light goes off, you know your helicopter is charged and ready to fly.
Learning to Fly
No flight can begin without a successful takeoff, and this an area which many new pilots find to be particularly tricky. An easy mistake is to crank the vertical lift too hard, causing your helicopter to shoot up out of control, and ultimately ending in a crash. Instead, you want to provide your helicopter with its vertical thrust slowly, by gently raising the left stick, which you will be using to control the height of your helicopter when flying. At liftoff, it is common that the helicopter will be spinning in one direction or the other, even though you are not pressing the right stick, which will control direction. It is important to balance out the helicopter by using the black buttons labeled "L" and "R" to straighten out your helicopter. To do this, hit the button opposite the direction the helicopter is spinning, so if your helicopter is turning clockwise, meaning the nose is heading to its right, you will hit the L button until it straightens itself out. Once your helicopter is in balance, it is time to start flying. Beginners should only fly their helicopter in an open space until they are used to the controls. The right stick will spin the helicopter about its axis, allowing it to turn left or right, whereas the left stick controls height and forward lift, with the pilot pressing up to make the helicopter rise and speed up, or down to slow and land.
