How to Build Remote Control Cars

Choose the type of remote controlled car you would like to build. There are a number of different car styles and body types to you can choose from when looking for a kit. Select the one that you like the most and that matches your skill level.

Clean up an area of the garage or basement to use as your work station. Make sure the area you choose to work on your RC car is one that is warm, dry, and out of the way. Your work area should also double as a storage area to keep your car protected from the elements as well as receiving damage from pets or young children.

Gather all the tools you will need for building your car. You'll need basic tools like screwdrivers, pliers, a hobby knife, and a pair of flush cutters. Organize these tools and make sure that when you are done using a specific tool, you put it back in it's proper place.

Remove all the parts from the kit, group them, and place them in hardware trays. Take all the individual parts and group them according to the type of part they are. For example put all the parts that go with the wheels and tires in one tray, all the engine parts in a separate tray, and so on. Keeping your parts organized helps you to keep track of them and prevents you from loosing any pieces.

Sand down any rough spots you might find on the edges of the parts and body chassis. Take a piece of sandpaper and lightly sand any plastic notches or other rough spots on the surface of the parts until it is smooth.

Assemble the engine and electronics. Make sure that you piece together the engine and electronics and have them working properly before assembling the rest of your car. Your kit should come with a diagram chart to help you make sure you put the pieces in the right place and that they are wired up correctly.

Paint the body of the car. It's best to use a spray gun for this as it will help you to evenly coat the chassis and it will save you a lot of time. After the paint has had a day or so to dry, and then add a layer of gloss to give it a nice shine.

Assemble the body of the truck, making sure the electronics, engine, and remote censor are all properly installed inside the chassis. Take the top part of the chassis and using a screwdriver secure it to the bottom part of the chassis with a few screws that come with your kit.

Put the wheels and tires on your car. Make sure to assemble that the axles are secured on the car before putting your tires on the vehicle. Take your car for a test drive to make sure it is working properly. You will want to take your car out to the park or an empty parking lot where you freely test it.
