How to Build a Homemade Jet Airplane

Building a homemade jet airplane model is a great way to gather up the kids and spend some quality time together doing a fun project. These type of jet airplane models come in all shapes and sizes, and some can even be custom built from scratch by those who are a bit more advanced builders. Of course, the most fun part of a project like this is seeing your airplane take to the skies in flight, and bring smiles to your family's faces.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear off an adequate amount of space to work on your project and to store your plane. An ideal place for building and storage would be a clean, dry garage with a workbench where tools are easily available.

    • 2

Gather together all of the tools you will need to build your airplane. Some basic tools you will want to keep handy include pliers, scissors, model glue, a knife, screwdriver, and some tools for wiring the remotes.

    • 3

Group and organize all the parts that came with your airplane kit. Take all the screws and put them together in one pile, all the tires, and other assorted parts and place them in separate containers so that they stay organized and to keep any pieces from getting lost before you use them.

    • 4

Read the manual that came with your jet airplane kit and follow the directions closely. Most kits come with a set of instructions and diagrams that show you how to put the pieces together. This is especially important when piecing together the electronics in both the plane and controller.

    • 5

Sand any rough edges off your plane if the kit you are building is one made of wood. This is simply done by taking a piece of sandpaper and rubbing it along the pieces of the plane. It is best to sand the pieces of your plane as you are building to help avoid slivers and chipped pieces from affecting your plane's flight.

    • 6

Choose the color of paint you would like your jet to be and then begin to carefully apply the paint to your plane. The color and exterior design of the plane is completely up to you and your own creativity, so just have fun with it.

    • 7

Take your plane to a wide open space like a park, where there is no danger of hitting trees or people, and fly your very own homemade jet airplane.
