How to Build a Ramp for RC Cars

One of the great things about RC cars is that they let us do things we would never do with our real cars. Through the power of remote-controlled toys, anyone can live a miniature version of his greatest adventure-movie dreams. Jumping your RC car is at the top of the list of fun things a real car couldn't do. RC cars are light, which means that RC jumps are easy to make. Test out a few different heights, then put your jump together.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the right size of jump for your car. On-road RC cars have little or no suspension, and can usually be damaged by jumps. If you must jump an on-road car, make it a very small one. Most off-road cars should be fine off a jump. The size of your jump should be proportional to the size of your car. Get a piece of plywood that is wide enough that your car can easily drive on it, and about twice as long as your car.

    • 2

Prop up the board. Use books, bricks or anything else you want to rest the end on.

    • 3

Adjust the jump height. Jump your car over the plywood repeatedly. Make the jump steeper or shallower by adding or taking away bricks. Keep going until you find the perfect height. Measure the height of the jump at the end.

    • 4

Cut two other pieces for your ramp. You will need two triangular pieces to hold up the jump, and a rectangular piece in the back to brace it.

    • 5

Nail the pieces together. Use several small nails along each seam to make a good connection. Pound in any loose ends to keep fingers and tires safe.
