  1. Make Headlights for Your RC Car

    • 1

Talk to someone in the know before you make any final decisions on the specific parts you're going to use for your headlights. The staff at the hobby shop where you bought your RC car, people with electronics expertise and other RC car builders can all be excellent sources of tips and advice. RC Universe (see Resources below) offers those interested in RC cars a wealth of resources, including chat forums where you can ask questions.

    • 2

Buy headlight housings that suit the type of LED you're planning to use. You can purchase LED mounters or clips needed to affix the LED to the housings for very little money at most well-known electronics retailers.

    • 3

Find out where to mount the power source of your headlights on the body (or inside the body) of your specific RC car model. This will very likely require you to consult the instruction booklet or manual that came with your RC car kit. If you are unsure where the battery or power source needs to go, check with the manufacturer or ask someone in the know.

    • 4

Mount your LEDs in your headlight housings and attach the headlight lenses to the headlights.

    • 5

Connect your new headlights' wires to the battery or power source through the body of your RC car. With many RC cars, this step may require you to disassemble large pieces of the car body. Make absolutely certain to test that the headlights are working when power is applied before reassembling your RC car.

    • 6

Take your RC car for a night-time spin to test out your new creation! Most LEDs have a very long life, and it is common that the battery or power source will have to be replaced long before the LEDs will.
