Parts of a Murray Tricycle

Riding a tricycle is a rite of passage for every youngster, and children have owned and ridden Murray tricycles for decades. Starting in the mid-1950s, the Murray company became the premier manufacturer of children's bicycles and toys for baby boomers. There are several distinctive parts of a Murray tricycle that make it stand out from the crowd.
  1. Murray Hubcaps

    • Noted for their distinctive "M" in the center of the hubcap, these standard hubcaps are found on most Murray tricycles. This is how you can determine if you are in possession of a classic Murray tricycle.

    Handlebars

    • Murray tricycles have a distinctive U-shaped handlebar that distinguishes it from other handlebars on tricycles. Many standard tricycles have a straight handlebar, while the Murray tricycle uses the rounded handlebar for ease of handling.

    Big Mack

    • A distinctive Murray style of tricycle introduced in the 1970s, this brand of Murray tricycle features a main frame that sports a single thick, straight tube in the center. Murray made other styles based on this one featuring large frames and big, plastic tires.

    Rear Design

    • Another distinctive Murray feature is the two-step design on the rear of the tricycle. This is to help the child step up onto the trike's seat. While many other companies started using this design in the early 1960s, Murray originated the rear two-step tricycle design.
