How to Install Friction Stickers on a Yo-yo

One of the most distinguishing characteristics of a yo-yo is the way it spins as it goes up and down. Friction produced by friction stickers causes this spinning. If the friction isn't high enough to "grip" the string, the yo-yo will simply fall down, unable to return. Replace or install friction stickers onto your yo-yo to avoid this problem. Friction stickers, or small circles of rubber and cloth, allow the yo-yo to keep spinning.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold one side of the yo-yo firmly in one hand while using the other hand to turn the second side counter-clockwise. Continue this until the two sides come apart. Place them on a flat surface.

    • 2

Remove any existing friction stickers from both sides. Peel these off with your finger, or use an object that allows you to scrape the sticker off effectively.

    • 3

Remove the backing from a new friction sticker.

    • 4

Place the new friction sticker in approximately the same position as the old one. There should be a slight depression in the yo-yo where the friction sticker goes.

    • 5

Press the sticker to secure it firmly against the yo-yo.

    • 6

      Screw the yo-yo back together.
