Making the Pieces
Measure the height of your figures and divide the number by six to get the scale of one foot in the size of your figures. Cut a square of plywood 18 times wider than this dimension, using a table saw, to represent the average size of a pro wrestling ring, which range from 16 to 20 feet square.
Draw diagonal lines using a straight edge across the plywood square from corner to corner in both directions. Mark a spot on each line 3/4 inches from the corner.
Insert the chuck key into the chuck of the drill press and turn it counterclockwise to loosen the chuck. Insert the paddle bit into the press and tighten the chuck. Drill one hole through each corner mark on the plywood.
Cut the dowel with the miter saw into four pieces, each 4 inches long. Clamp one of the dowels in the vise. With the carpenters square as a guide, draw a line lengthwise along the dowel. Mark the line at 1/4-inch, 1 1/4-inch and 2 1/4-inch from one end of the dowel.
Drill 3/16-inch holes straight through the dowel in each marked spot. Mark and drill each of the remaining dowels in the same way.
Assembling the Ring
Mark each dowel 1 inch from the "un-drilled' end. Apply a small amount of wood glue around the edge of each hole in the plywood. Insert one dowel into each hole until the bottom of the plywood is aligned with the 1-inch mark, so that the dowel sticks out 1 inch from the bottom.
Drive a pin nail through the edge of the plywood into each dowel.
Thread the cord through the dowel holes around the ring, with one cord in the top set of holes, one in the middle and one in the bottom to create the ropes. Cut the cord to length and knot the ends to keep them from pulling out.
