How to Play Labyrinth Games

The Labyrinth in Greek mythology was a maze-like structure built to house the minotaur and protect Minos' home and possessions. Today, it's a toy, usually made of wood, with a maze-like map on the top and a steel marble which must avoid the pitfalls on the way to its goal. This style of toy has also inspired several digital versions, including Flash games and apps on the iPhone and iPod Touch. Fans of mazes and games of skill will enjoy all three iterations.

Instructions

  1. Wooden Labyrinth

    • 1

Set up your labyrinth. Place the wooden toy on a stable, flat surface with both control knobs easily reached from wherever the player is.

    • 2

Start the game by placing the ball at the start position. On a wooden labyrinth, this is at the plain end of the arrow near the hole marked "1."

    • 3

Gently twist the two control knobs to learn which tilts the board in which direction.

    • 4

Move the ball out of the start area. Carefully use these knobs to turn the game board and navigate the ball carefully to the end position. If your ball falls into one of the holes, it will reappear through the hole in the side of the toy. Simply pick it up and place it back at the start position to continue play.

    • 5

Navigate the ball to the end position, passing all of the holes in sequence, to win.

    Digital Labyrinth

    • 6

Start the game in your Web Browser or on your iPod or iPhone Touch. Wait for the game to load.

    • 7

Click or tap the "Start" or "Play" button on the application to place the ball in the starting position.

    • 8

Move the ball out of the starting space and navigate carefully past the black holes to the end position to win. In a Flash game, you may use the arrow keys to navigate the maze, or whichever controls the in-game help indicate. On the iPhone or iPod Touch, most applications have you tilting the phone itself to move the map.
