Silly Toy Airplane
The silly toy airplane is comprised of one fuselage, one horizontal tail, one wing that slides through the body of the plane, a pilot, a propeller, the propeller axle, two wheels and a wheel axle. Any type of wood can be used, including birch, maple or alder. You can choose paint colors of your liking, and a wood lacquer can be used to protect the plane and the paint. You will want to paint the pieces and let them dry before assembling the plane. Standard wood glue works best to put your plane together.
Airplane Puzzle
To make the airplane puzzle you will need 3/4-inch wood, packing tape, primer, paint, paint pens, sandpaper and a spray adhesive. You will want to sand the wood first on both sides and wipe clean. Apply the packing tape to one side of the wood before you begin cutting. On a piece of paper, make the outline of an airplane and the shapes for the puzzle pieces, then cut out, leaving about 1/4 inch edge around the outline. Use the spray adhesive on the packing tape side of the wood and attach the outline you cut out. Saw the outline first, then begin sawing each individual piece. Remove the pattern and the packing tape and sand each individual piece before applying two coats of sealant. Once dry, paint in desired colors.
Bi-plane Airplane
For the bi-plane airplane you will need one fuselage, one horizontal tail, a vertical tail, an axle, a propeller, a lower wing and an upper wing and eight vertical supports. Beech or maple can be used to make the plane, but any wood will work. Prior to painting or assembly, you will want to sand the pieces and apply a sealant to protect the wood. Make sure the sealant is dry before painting. Once painted and dry, assemble to pieces using a standard wood glue.
