How to Get Through the Sand Room in Mario Bros.

"Super Mario 3" was the first of the "Mario" games to utilize a world map. After completing a stage, players go to the world map, from which they can choose the next level they want to play. The game is divided into several worlds, and on the second world, players will encounter the Sand stage. The first half of the level is fairly straightforward, but by the end, they'll be dealing with novel challenges, including quicksand, an enraged sun and a dust devil.

Instructions

- 1
  Head right, avoiding piranha plants and Koopas. When you encounter quicksand, avoid touching it. Falling into it will result in death, just like falling into a pit. About a third of the way through, the level you'll encounter a dust devil.

  Leap into the dust devil. It will shoot you into the sky. This gets the attention of the sun, which becomes angry at you invading its space. It starts chasing you for the remainder of the level. If it touches you, you get hurt. You cannot kill it.

  Proceed right. Jump on the Koopas to kill them, or use a fireball if you have Flower Power. As you proceed, you'll encounter two more quicksand pits.

  Jump over the first pit. To get over the second, first leap onto the nearby bricks to get some extra height, then leap over the pit. Once you get over the second quicksand pit, you'll reach the end of the stage.
