"Final Fantasy III" for the Super Nintendo, later renamed "Final Fantasy VI" for subsequent releases such as the PlayStation and Game Boy Advance, features 255 items players can use in battle. One item, the Cursed Shield, seems worthless at first glance. Equipping a character with it causes that character to suffer from nearly every negative status ailment in the game at the same time. However, the Cursed Shield can be uncursed, turning it into the Paladin Shield. This shield is the strongest shield in the game and teaches the strongest spell, Ultima, to the character who wields it. The method to uncurse the shield is always the same no matter which version of the game you are playing.

Press "Start" on your controller to access the menu.

Select "Equip" followed by the character who is going to use the Cursed Shield. Any character can use the Cursed Shield.

Select "Cursed Shield" to equip that character with the shield.

Fight and win 256 battles with the character who is wearing the Cursed Shield. It does not matter who you fight, just that the character wearing the shield is used during the battle. After the 256th battle, the message "Dispelled Curse on Shield!" is displayed at the top of the screen. Your Cursed Shield has now turned into a Paladin Shield.
