Getting Birthdays
When you start a new game of "Ogre Battle 64," you have the chance to input your birthday. This determines when you get a birthday event. Afterward, every time the game time passes that day, you will get a birthday event; Hugo and your fellow soldiers will throw a party for you with cake and a little gift. You can watch the event and get the gift by entering the "Hugo Report" screen and looking under "Events." Birthdays will be marked with the event name "Happy Birthday!" Press "L" to play the event and you'll get the gift at the end.
Early Birthdays
You start out the game at 19 years old. For your 20th birthday, you receive a Gallant doll -- a doll that shares stats with you. For every year after that until your 29th birthday, you will get a random item -- either an Urn of Chaos, a Scroll of Discipline or Goblet of Destiny. This effectively means you have nine opportunities to get an Urn of Chaos for your birthday gift.
The Urn of Chaos
In "Ogre Battle 64," the Urn of Chaos decreases the alignment of one soldier, tilting the scale towards "Chaos." Low alignment is important to promote some units to a higher tier, such as Wizards and Berserkers. The only other way to lower alignment is to fight high alignment units, of which there are very few. You can also put low alignment units like Ghosts and Skeletons in the unit.
Tips on Getting an Urn of Chaos
As birthday gifts are randomly generated, the best way to make sure you get an Urn of Chaos is to save your game a few days before your birthday, then walk back and forth over the world map until you hit your birthday. Then check the birthday event to see if you get an Urn of Chaos. If you do not, reset the game and try again. You can also fight a few training battles in between to change the random number generator beforehand.
