How to Make Video Games Less Choppy

When playing games against friends, there's nothing more annoying than a choppy game. With modern systems part of the appeal is the clear, realistic graphics, but when your game skips, that's the last thing you see. If your game is not a bad disc, there are ways to fix the choppy problem. Test the heat coming out of the system or the condition of the disc to troubleshoot the problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Eject the disc from your gaming console. Wipe the bottom of the disc with a clean, soft towel. When a game is choppy, there may be a scratch or spot on the bottom of the game. Check for any major scratches that do not come out after wiping the bottom of the disc. These may not be fixable.

Turn off any other electronics in-between your console and router if playing online. Online games require a lot of bandwidth, if your game is lagging, it may be because there is not enough bandwidth available or the Internet connection is bad. It's also useful to keep the router in the same room as the console if you use Wi-Fi Internet.

Move your console to an area where it has better airflow. If your system overheats, it can cause the game to slow down and be choppy. For example, move it to on top the entertainment center instead of on the bottom shelf where little air reaches the console.
