How to Get the Boat Curse in Paper Mario

During the events of ̶0;Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door,̶1; you will periodically need to change forms in order to access hidden or secret areas. Some areas are only accessible if Mario takes the form of a sailboat, an ability that must be unlocked in the form of the Sailboat Curse. This curse is hidden away in Chapter Five of the game, and you will need to discover it before you can take advantages of its powers. Once you have the sailboat curse, you can turn Mario into a boat whenever you think it will help you find something new or progress through a level.

Instructions

      Play through ̶0;The Thousand-Year Door̶1; until you reach Chapter Five, titled ̶0;The Key to Pirates.̶1;

      Sail with Flavio and his motley crew of sailors until you are attacked by Cortez̵7;s Embers, which will end with you and your friends being marooned on an island.

      Head into the jungle on the island and look for star pieces and enemies to defeat. You will eventually reach a cave with a number of simple puzzles inside.

      Make your way to the back of the cave. You will find a gray chest in the last room before the save point. Open this chest and you will be attacked by an ember.

      Defeat the ember, and you will be cursed with the ability to turn into a boat.
