How to Fight the Skeleton on The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

The final dungeon you go through in "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" is the Stone Tower Temple in the cursed Ikana Canyon. If you explore the area before going through Ikana Castle, you notice that you have to step on switches to move the floating blocks around to ascend the tower. However, moving off the switches causes the blocks to move back, making it impossible to get through. The ghostly king of Ikana Castle, Igos du Ikana, has the secret to enter Stone Tower, but he won't give it up without a fight. After navigating the ruined castle and opening the central chamber, you face him and his two servants.

Instructions

    • 1

Go through the center path in Ikana Castle past the ReDeads. The Gibdo Mask lets you pass them without incident, but you can run around them. Break the pots you see in the antechamber to get magic and a supply of arrows.

    • 2

Enter the King's Chamber and watch the cutscene. Take note of the curtains that come down over the windows.

    • 3

Go to a corner of the room and equip Fire Arrows. Shoot the two curtains with them to let two patches of light into the room.

    • 4

Target one of the two Stalfos and fight near the light. Two swings with the Gilded Sword briefly stuns the Stalfos.

    • 5

Stand in the patch of light and aim the Mirror Shield at the Stalfos you just fought. Fight the other Stalfos the same way.

    • 6

Target Igos du Ikana when he enters the fight but don't close your distance. He has a poison breath attack that damages you if you get too close. Strike when you see an opening and jump attack with your sword if you can manage it. Heal yourself as necessary.

    • 7

Run around the room and avoid the floating skull; don't stop because it moves quickly. Also, move erratically if you can. If the skull latches onto you, you lose two hearts of damage. At the same time, avoid the skull's headless body because it can attack with the sword. Wait for the body to resolidify and the skull to settle onto it.

    • 8

Hit Igos du Ikana five times with the Gilded Sword to stun him, then reflect light onto his body with the Mirror Shield. This is essentially the same method you used to defeat his two servants.
