"Ogre Battle 64" is a real-time strategy game with role-playing elements mixed in. Published by the video game company "Atlus" and released in 2000 for the Nintendo 64, the game uniquely focuses on class-based combat. A character's class determines what equipment it can hold and what kinds of attacks it can do. The classes are divided up into three main categories: "Male," "Female" and "Non-human." The "Soldier" class, often mistaken for "Spearmen" since they are the only class that uses spears as their sole weapon, is unique because you need to do things a bit differently to "upgrade" them.

Choose either a "Valkyrie" (Female) or "Knight" (Male) to lead your soldiers.

Lead your soldiers into battle. If you win the battle, you will see the word "Win" appear on your screen. Each surviving soldier will gain two "Soldier Exp."

Repeat the battle process until you have earned 100 "Soldier Exp." Once this happens, a randomly selected soldier will be upgraded into either an "Amazon" (If the leader you chose was female) or a "Fighter" (If the leader you chose was male).
