Where Is Ganon in Ocarina of Time?

"The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" features Link's first chronological encounter with Ganondorf Dragmire, the main villain of the series. The Great Deku Tree and Princess Zelda inform you what Ganondorf wants: access to the Sacred Realm where the three Goddesses of Hyrule reside and the Triforce, their sacred relic, along with them. Ganondorf wants the power of the Triforce, and to get it, he needs to go to the Sacred Realm through the Temple of Time. You face Ganondorf in the war-torn future as adult Link.
  1. Hyrule Castle Taken

    • When you come out of the Temple of Time seven years after drawing the Master Sword from its pedestal, Ganondorf has taken over Hyrule, killed/enslaved everyone in Hyrule Castle Town and taken over Hyrule Castle as his palace. Where the castle used to be, there is now a moat of lava, above which is suspended a floating island with a black, spike-adorned tower. This is Ganon's Tower, formerly Hyrule Castle. No bridges lead to Ganon's Tower -- at least, not yet.

    Across the Rainbow

    • After you get all six Spirit Medallions -- Forest, Fire, Water, Shadow, Spirit and Light -- you are summoned to the Temple of Time, where the mysterious Sheik waits for you; s/he is actually Princess Zelda in disguise, having hidden alongside Impa for the seven-year interim while Link slept. After the reveal that the Triforce split into three parts when Ganondorf touched it, and the identities of the holders, Ganondorf encases Zelda inside a crystal and teleports her to the top of his tower. When you go to the edge of the lava moat, the six Sages combine their power to create a rainbow bridge to the tower entrance.

    Up the Tower

    • The central part of Ganon's Tower is blocked by six barriers that you have to disable before you can proceed upward to fight Ganon. Each of these six barriers represents one of the temples. At the end of each chamber, the corresponding Sage is held in a cocoon which you destroy with a Light Arrow. After the barrier disappears, you can go up the tower, facing Lizalfos, Stalfos and a pair of Iron Knuckles. The very top of the tower is a single room where Ganondorf is playing the organ and Princess Zelda is suspended near the ceiling. The final battle begins here.

    Ganondorf

    • Ganondorf throws lightning at you, which you reflect by hitting it with the Master Sword in a celestial tennis match. When he is stunned from his own attack, a quick Light Arrow causes him to drop to the ground, vulnerable to slashes with the Master Sword. This period only lasts a short time; you have to use the Longshot to latch onto the outer walls and repeat the process. Eventually, Ganondorf is mortally wounded, leaving you and Zelda to make your way back down the tower within three minutes before it crashes around you.

    Ganon

    • After the tower crumbles, the resurrected Ganondorf leaps from the ruins and transforms into the mutated pig-like form, Ganon, with the aid of the Triforce of Power. Using two massive swords, he knocks the Master Sword from your hand outside a ring of fire, leaving you to defend yourself with the Megaton Hammer and Light Arrows. After the fire disappears, you can get the Master Sword and resume the fight to defeat Ganon once and for all -- or at least until the next "Zelda" game.
