How to Get Iron Boots in Zelda: Ocarina of Time Walkthrough

In "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time," Link needs gadgets, like the Iron Boots, to get through obstacles in temples and dungeons. The Iron Boots let Link walk underwater and they weigh him down so he doesn't slide around when walking on ice. You get the Iron Boots in the Ice Cavern behind Zora's Domain. When you first visited Zora's Domain as young Link, a thriving aquatic community lived there. As adult Link, Zora's Domain is completely frozen. Enter the Ice Cavern to get the Iron Boots and free the frozen King of the Zora.

Instructions

    • 1

Walk northeast from Hyrule Field to enter Zora's Domain. When you enter the area, Zora's Domain is frozen over. Go past King Zora, who is also frozen, and go through the exit behind his throne.

    • 2

Jump across the floating ice blocks and go through the door to enter the Ice Cavern. Shatter the icicles in your way to make a path through the room. Some icicles fall from the ceiling--dodge them as they fall.

    • 3

Enter the next room and defeat the enemies. Walk across the narrow path while avoiding the blades. Pick up the clear gems on the path to open a new door.

    • 4

Go through the open door. Kill the enemy and walk downstairs. Climb up the ledge and jump to the platform across from you.

    • 5

Equip an empty bottle. If you already have something in the bottle, like a fairy or milk, release it. Swipe the bottle at the blue fire in front of you to capture it. Fill as many bottles as possible with the blue fire.

    • 6

Go back until you see a sheet of red ice that blocks your way. Pour a bottle of blue fire on it to melt the ice. Proceed through the hall into the next room.

    • 7

Kill the bats in the room. Stand behind the large block of ice on the slippery floor, and push it to the left. Jump on the ice block and then jump across to another ledge.

    • 8

Use the blue fire to melt the two red ice chunks that block the door, then go through it. An Ice Wolfos confronts you. To defeat it, circle around it and wait for it to pounce. Roll out of the way, run up behind it and slash with your sword.

    • 9

Defeat the Ice Wolfos and open the treasure chest that appears to get the Iron Boots. To complete the Ice Cavern, collect more blue fire and go through the exit to Zora's Domain. Melt the red ice surrounding King Zora to get the Zora Tunic.
