How to Beat Level 8-4 in Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels Deluxe

"Super Mario: The Lost Levels" is the Japanese sequel to the original "Super Mario Bros." game for the NES, or Nintendo Entertainment System. Many gamers complained that the original game was too easy, so the sequel increased the difficulty. In the final normal level "8-4" where Bowser appears, you have to take a specific pathway to get through the level, otherwise it loops indefinitely and you run out of time.

Instructions

    • 1

Jump off the starting ledge and veer to the left. Take a running start and jump to the other side.

    • 2

Continue through the level until you come to two pipes. Wait for the Piranha Plants to disappear and go down the pipe beneath the two blocks to emerge in a watery area. Swim through this, avoiding the enemies and swirling fire traps.

    • 3

Jump on the overhanging ledge when you come out of the pipe. When the Piranha Plant disappears, jump off and veer to the left to land on the second pipe. Go down.

    • 4

Continue through the next area. When you come to a large lava pit you will see a small platform just above the lava's surface. Use it to land and jump across the rest of the way. Continue.

    • 5

A replica of Bowser will appear in the next area, throwing hammers and jumping. When he jumps, run under him.

    • 6

Run under the real Bowser on the lava bridge and grab the axe. The bridge will disappear, letting Bowser fall into the lava. Jump into the Princess's cage. You have beaten the game.
