How to Use the Code Generator on the Gameshark for a Nintendo 64

The Code Generator on a GameShark Pro for the Nintendo 64 is used by searching for values that occur (and change) within the game you are playing. For example, if you are playing an RPG such as "Quest 64," you could find a code for infinite health points because health points are a known value that change within the game. Through the process of trial and error, you can create a variety of codes and save them to your GameShark Pro for future use.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the game you wish to play to the GameShark Pro and place it into your Nintendo 64. Turn the Nintendo 64 on.

    • 2

Begin the game without adding or enabling any codes from the GameShark Pro. Once the game has started, press the GS button (located on the right side of the GameShark cartridge) and highlight the Code Generator option. Press the A button to turn it on.

    • 3

Select "Known Value Search" from the available options and then "16-bit Search." From here, you can input any known value of the game that you would like to make a cheat out of. This can include money, health points, magic points or any other known value that occurs (and is variable) throughout the game.

    • 4

Input the known value and return to the game by pressing the GS button.

    • 5

Alter the number of the known value by any means necessary. For example, if you originally input "300" to represent a character's current health points, have that character take some damage.

    • 6

Press the GS button and input the new value of whatever you caused to change. Going along with the example in "Step 5," if, after taking some damage, your character's health points are now at 295 (instead of 300), you would input "295." Your GameShark Pro will then give you a list of possible codes that can be created from the data you have input. This will typically be a very large number at first.

    • 7

Press the GS button to return to the game and alter the value of whatever you caused to change again. This would mean having your character take more damage if going along with the example in "Step 5" and "Step 6." Doing this will narrow the amount of possible codes your GameShark Pro can create into a manageable number.

    • 8

Input the new value as you did in "Step 6" and repeat this process until you have a manageable amount of possible codes, such as 10 or fewer.

    • 9

Scroll through the possible codes and press the A button to activate them.

    • 10

Press the GS button to return to the game with your new cheat intact. You can test to see if the code is working by attempting to alter the value of whatever it is you were changing. If the value does not change (such as health points), you have successfully created a new code that gives your character an infinite amount of whatever you had been altering.

    • 11

Save the code to your GameShark Pro by turning the Nintendo 64 off and then back on again. Select the "Select Cheat Codes" and you will see the code(s) you created. You can give them custom names by selecting "Edit Code." These codes will remain on your GameShark Pro if you wish to use them in the future.
