How to Get the Last Song in Majora's Mask

In "Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" for the Nintendo 64, songs played an integral part in the progression of the story. This is a carryover from the game's predecessor, "The Ocarina of Time," in which music also played a huge part. Songs are learned, either through game events or by killing certain bosses, and then used to allow you to progress past certain obstacles. In "Majora's Mask," the final song that you can learn is the "Elegy of Emptiness," which allows you create up to four statue clones of yourself. These clones allow you to press multiple weighted switches at one time and open doors that you could not open alone.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to Ikana Canyon. You should have already won the horse race at the Garman Racetrack and earned the Garo's Mask. If you haven't earned this mask, you won't be able to see or summon the spirits in Ikana Canyon and Ikana Castle.

    • 2

Go through the Spring Water Cave until you meet Sharp, who will tell you to seek out the King of Ikana Castle. From here, travel south to the Music Box House, where you will find a mummified man. Play the Song of Healing for him and he will reward you with the Gibdo Mask.

    • 3

Make your way to the top of the canyon by following the ramps on the left upward. Keep going up until you see a well. It should look like a circle with a ladder leading down. Climb down. Put on the Gibdo Mask and talk to all of the Gibdos (mummies) at the bottom of the well. Each of them is guarding a hallway or door, and will want items in return for passage. When you have satisfied the final Gibdo, he will give you access to a room full of torches. Light them to make the Mirror Shield chest appear. Use the Mirror Shield to reflect sunlight onto the Sun Block and Sun Face to open the secret entrance to Ikana Castle.

    • 4

Make your way through the castle until you reach the Throne Room. You will have to fight two Royal Guard mini-bosses before fighting the King himself. Shoot Fire Arrows at the blinds covering the windows to allow the sunlight in. Like all of the undead in the castle, these bosses are very vulnerable to sunlight, but you can't reflect sunlight at them because they block it with their shields.

    • 5

Knock the guards down and then reflect sunlight onto their bodies to kill them. Afterwards, you must fight the King. Use the same tactics as you did on the guards, but be aware that it will take several bursts of sunlight before he dies. You should also avoid his poison breath and run from him when his head begins floating around. After you defeat him, the King will reward you for freeing him from his undead form by teaching you the final song, the Elegy of Emptiness.
