How to Steal Weapons in Final Fantasy Tactics

The video game "Final Fantasy Tactics" was originally developed by Square Enix for the PlayStation in 1997. It has since been ported, with slight variations in gameplay, to the Game Boy Advance and PlayStation Portable. All versions include the ability to steal almost anything from opponents, including weapons. In order to do this, you will need a Thief with a minimum of 600 Job Points (JP) in your party. Job Points are referred to as "Ability Points" in all but the PlayStation version, but otherwise function in the same way.

Instructions

    • 1

Recruit an Archer into your clan as soon as possible. Your first opportunity to do this happens after the training battles at the beginning of the game. After these battles, the Map screen is shown. Go to Gariland by selecting it on the map and visit the Warriors' Guild there. Continue choosing "Don't Hire" until an Archer is offered for hire. Hire the Archer once one is presented. Hireable characters are generated according to a random algorithm, so this may take some time.

    • 2

Develop your Archer by keeping him active in all subsequent battles, which occur automatically as part of the storyline. The goal is to get the Archer to Level 2. At this point, the Thief job becomes available. The Archer is the only low-level character with access to this job. Continue fighting until this occurs.

    • 3

Change the Archer's job to Thief once it becomes available. The Party Roster screen appears at the end of each battle. Once your Archer is Level 2, select him on the Party Roster screen and press the triangle button. The Archer's menu will open, and the Thief job will be listed. Select it and press triangle.

Keep your Thief active in your party through subsequent battles. You need to accumulate a minimum of 600 Job Points (JP) to make the Steal Weapons ability available. Individual clan members generally accumulate JP by participating in battle, but accumulate them fastest by using their job-specific abilities. Use the Thief's Steal command often. Thiefs are physically weak, so keep him out of direct danger as much as possible. Once you have 600 or more JP, the Steal Weapons command will be available.

    • 5

Use the Steal Weapons ability the same way that other job-specific abilities are used. Select it from the Thief's battle menu when it is his turn to move and then select a target. Like all abilities, its success depends on several factors. The higher level your Thief is, the more likely they will successfully steal weapons from enemies.
