How to Configure Keys for Snes ROM

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or SNES, is a classic game console created by Nintendo Corp. as a successor to the Nintendo Entertainment System. While the consoles can still be obtained and played today, it may be preferable to play the classic games using your computer to avoid the hassle of switching and caring for cartridges. The standard key layout of the emulator you choose may be uncomfortable, but it can be changed to accommodate your preferences.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Configure" or "Settings" in the task bar of the SNES emulator you are running.

    • 2

Click "Configure keys," "Keyboard" or "Controls" depending on the chosen emulator. This will open a keyboard-configuration window, allowing you to set a key for each button on a standard SNES controller.

    • 3

Set the keys as you are comfortable using them. If you are used to the standard SNES controller, match the pattern of the keys on the keyboard to the location of those on the controller.

    • 4

Set the keys based on the number of players. If you will be playing single-player games, set the keys anywhere you please. It may be most comfortable to use keys on the left side of the keyboard for the directional arrows and the right side of the keyboard for action buttons.

    • 5

Set the directional arrows and action buttons for player one near each other on one side of the keyboard and set up a second set of arrows and buttons for player two on the opposite side. Traditionally, player one is on the left and player two is on the right to match the screen layout of many games.

    • 6

Click "OK" or "Save" to save the settings and use the new control layout for your SNES ROMS.
