How to Use the Chaos Emeralds in Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega

"Sonic the Hedgehog," for the Sega Genesis, was the first time Sega introduced future mascot Sonic to the world. Sonic featured a sense of speed that was not matched by other platforming games of its time and featured additional challenges on top of simply beating the levels. One of these challenges was to obtain the six Chaos Emeralds. There is one Chaos Emerald in each stage for Sonic to find. The emeralds are not used until the end of the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Complete each stage holding 50 or more rings. Rings can be found throughout each level in many locations.

    • 2

Jump into the golden ring at the end of the level.

    • 3

Complete the bonus stage found within to be awarded a Chaos Emerald.

    • 4

Complete the game once you have acquired all six Chaos Emeralds. The ending of the game changes if you have acquired all six emeralds. This is the only use for the emeralds in "Sonic the Hedgehog" for the Genesis.
