How to Collect All 14 Emeralds in 'Sonic & Knuckles'

Collecting all 14 Chaos Emeralds in "Sonic and Knuckles" allows you to play as special versions of the three main characters: Hyper Sonic, Hyper Knuckles and Super Tails. To collect all 14 emeralds you will need to collect the seven emeralds available in the normal game, then insert a copy of "Sonic 3" into the "Sonic and Knuckles" cartridge using the "Lock-On" feature.

  Collect 50 rings in "Sonic 3." Jump and press "Up" to access special stages, where you can collect Chaos Emeralds.

  Repeat Step 1 six times. Save your game and insert the "Sonic 3" cartridge into the "Sonic and Knuckle" cartridge.

  Collect the seven Chaos Emeralds in "Sonic and Knuckles." Go to the Mushroom Hill Zone and jump into one of the rainbow Super Rings you see to enter the Hidden Palace.

  Collect all the blue spheres in each of the seven special stages inside Hidden Palace to replace your Chaos Emeralds with Super Emeralds and unlock Hyper Sonic, Hyper Knuckles and Super Tails.
