How Do I Play As Knuckles in Sonic 2?

Although Knuckles the Echidna did not make his first appearance in the third game in the "Sonic" series, it is possible to play as Knuckles in "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" using the "Sonic &Knuckles" game cartridge. "Sonic &Knuckles" for the Sega Genesis is the first cartridge game to feature backward compatibility with other games, such as "Sonic the Hedgehog 2," using lock-on technology. This allows content to be shared between the two cartridges with the result being the ability to play "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" as Knuckles.

     Place the "Sonic &Knuckles" game cartridge in your Sega Genesis system.

     Flip open the lid on the top of the "Sonic &Knuckles" game cartridge.

     Insert the "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" game cartridge into the top slot of the "Sonic &Knuckles" game cartridge.

   • 4

     Press the "Power" button to turn on the Sega Genesis. If performed correctly you will now see a title screen with Knuckles that says "Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2."

     Press "Start" to begin a game using Knuckles.
