Power Supply Requirements
The Retro Duo is powered with an external, wall wart-style power supply. This supply is rated at 5 volts direct current and 1,000 mA, or 1 current. Power is connected to the Retro Duo via a standard 2.1mm barrel-style connector with positive voltage supplied via the connector's center conductor. Replacement power supplies are available for international style power, including 220-volt outlets.
Console Television Connections
Retro Duo consoles are connected to television sets via standard composite AV cables, including video, left audio and right audio connections. The Super Nintendo AV connector cables are not compatible. Higher resolution Super Nintendo games can be outputted through an S-video connector but standard Nintendo games are available on the composite video connection only.
Controller Connections
The Retro Duo ships with controllers capable of playing both Super and standard Nintendo games. These controllers are connected via a standard Super Nintendo connector, allowing original controllers to be used.
Retro Duo Reviews
Gaming magazines have published mediocre overall impressions for the Retro Duo. Nintendo no longer manufactures its original consoles, making its vintage consoles harder to obtain in perfect condition. Although critics seem happy with the availability of brand new Retro Duos to replace aging consoles, concerns have been raised about the Retro Duo's build quality, including potentially faulty S-video connections and cheap plastic construction.
